Anne of Green Gables heritage place is home to Canada’s most loved fictional character, Anne Shirley. It is located in Prince Edward Island, Cavendish.
It was our first time in P.E.I, and we knew that we wouldn’t want to miss out on this experience. Thus, we had planned to spend the entire day there, and take our time to learn all about the novel, the author and especially, the character.
It took us a 1 hour drive from where we were staying, in Belfast at Rachel’s Motel & Cottages.
Highlights of Lucy Maud Montgomery‘s life, the author of the novel, are showcased throughout the visit, as well as real life representations of Green Gables, where the character lived.
The novel recounts how Anne, an 11-year-old orphan, makes her way through life with her adoptive parents, who had originally intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm.
The 19th century house contains memory-filled rooms, as well as detailed pieces from the story. This gives the visitors a more vivid perspective of the novel.
After visiting the house, we went to the gardens surrounding the area, and walked on fairytale-like trails such as the Lovers Lane, a pathway in the story’s village, Avonlea.
