Au Sommet du Fjord is a calm campground located near Tadoussac region of Quebec. More specifically, it is situated in Sacré-Coeur, a quiet town that can be visited while heading to Saguenay.
The campground features multiple sites between the bottom, near the welcome cabin, and the top, on the summit. It also welcomes many volunteers during the summer, which helps maintaining everything.
We went there during the fall season, so there were few campers. This gave us an advantage for a last minute switch, between the site on the top that we had already booked, and one that was on the bottom.
During the day, we decided to explore the trail leading to the top. That way, we were able to go for a sunrise hike the next morning.
We also went to visit Tadoussac, a nearby town that has many attractions and lookouts to the river. Luckily, we managed to get a last minute table at Bistro de la Baie, a local seafood restaurant near the marina. And before heading back to the campground, we had a quiet time at the beach near the town’s chapel. It is also worth noting, that while you can take a boat ride to see the whales, you might get even luckier relaxing at the viewpoint near the Marina.
Upon returning to the campground, we started preparing everything in advance for the sunrise hike, and later that night, we gathered around the fire, along with other campers and volunteers.
The night sky was clear, making it possible for us to stargaze and capture some beautiful photos of the stars.
The next morning, we woke up at around 5:30 am, and it took us only 18 mins to reach the top. The trail was easy to hike, with some slippery areas due to moist dirt.

The fastest way to get to the campground is by taking the Ferry from Baie-Sainte-Catherine. You can also use the map below to either find the parking lot as well as the different places we went to.
