The Button Trail, Mount Ham Regional Park, Winter Edition
Mount Ham Regional Park is located in the Southern Notre Dame Mountains region of Quebec. More specifically, it is situated between the cities of Sherbrooke, Montreal and Trois-Rivières, within almost the same distance.
The park holds multiple trails leading to a 360 degrees summit that's one of the highest in the region.
The Button Trail is a moderate hiking trail that starts near the cabins and cuts through the forest to reach a panoramic view at the top.

I hiked this trail during January and the temperature reached -12°C at the top. Though I had to use spikes instead of snowshoes due to the lack of snow.
It is also worth noting, the importance of a good layering system, especially to protect you from the Extremely Windy aspect of the summit:
- Base layers for both lower and upper body - Moisture Absorption
- Warm Fleece - For Heat
- Down Jacket
- Shell Jacket - Windproof and Waterproof jacket
- Snow Pants
I don't usually wear a Down Jacket and a Shell Jacket separately, because I have a jacket that is both.
The full trail includes a 8 Km back and forth hike, from the cabin to the highest point at 800 m. However, instead of turning back, I decided to take a steep 2 Km path and slide my way back.

April 5, 2026Thank you so much! I would recommend to always wear Foot Warmers, they are incredible at retaining heat. Also, make sure to wear light breathable socks instead of really warm ones while on the trail and then you can switch to warmer ones as soon as you finish your hike. A bit extra socks to carry but they change everything! Happy hiking :)
